BPC‑157 (Body Protection Compound‑157) is a fifteen‑amino‑acid peptide derived from a segment of human gastric juice. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its cytoprotective, neuroprotective, and anti‑inflammatory properties, notably accelerating healing of tendons, gastric mucosa, ligaments, skin wounds, fractures, and various organ tissues such as the liver, pancreas, heart, and nerves in rodent models . Research in animal models further highlights its role in preserving neurological function following ischemic brain injury, improving cognitive and motor outcomes while modulating gene expression with upregulation of VEGFR2 and antioxidant pathways . On the safety front, comprehensive preclinical toxicology studies across multiple species—including mice, rats, rabbits, and dogs—found that BPC‑157 was well tolerated, with no significant toxicity in single- and repeated‑dose evaluations, no genetic or embryo‑fetal toxicity, and only mild local irritation.
